Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids

“I loved the first Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids book, but it was when I made my way through the exercises in the Workbook that I was finally able to really stop shouting at my kids. I also found the suggestions about empathizing and connecting through play super helpful and I can see that my children feel closer to me now and listen better.”

— Eva, mother of 3 and 5 yr olds

What parents are saying

It contained strategies that I could implement straight away. I liked the thoughts around connectedness and self-regulation. Within a few pages I was already deepening my understanding of my daughter and developing new strategies to improve our relationship.

- Frieda, kids 20 months and 4 years old

I love the compassion that this book shows to parents. It's clear the author is a coach who is really helping us with techniques for parenting. I really liked how this book is written, format, and also how the text is simple and concrete, the author is knowledgeable but the language, techniques and exercises feel approachable... I loved the step by step techniques like stop drop and breathe. The concrete techniques, examples and exercises paired with text were perfect for me.

- Andrea, mother of 3 and 5 yr olds

I loved the first Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids book, but it was when I made my way through the exercises in the Workbook that I was finally able to stop shouting at my kids. I also found the suggestions about empathizing and connecting through play super helpful and I can see that my children feel closer to me now and listen better.

- Eva, mother of 3 and 5 yr olds

This book has helped me work through my reactions toward my husband as well as my daughter and has helped me appreciate the power of a pause and a deep breath to change the outcome of a situation. An important take away for me is so simple yet so important (and sadly can be forgotten on busy, stressful days) -- to delight in my child. Thinking on this has helped me take a step back and let my child be who she is.

- Elisa

This book is so kindly written it's like someone is holding my hand guiding me through. I started reading and BOOM I'm calmer and making sense of my children's behaviors! My son (2.5 years) has moments of upset and attitude like any toddler. It was bedtime and he was in full scream mode. I said "This isn't an emergency; you are allowed to cry and tell me what's wrong," and just like that, I kept myself completely calmed the whole 30 min or more he was out of sorts! It felt so good to be level headed and in control while comforting my son!

- Heather, mom of 2 year old son and 5 month old daughter

I actually forgot I was reading a parenting book. It really places the change on the parent to better assist the kids when chaos breaks loose. The book helped me realize Peaceful Parenting starts from within. I create the end of the beginning problem. If treat them as I want to be treated and speak calmly and connect with them before I correct it makes all the difference. This book opens your eyes to ones self. That is where it starts.

- Teri (kids 8 and 4)

My kids can sometimes get a little over-tired and crazy in the lead up to bedtime, running around and laughing rather than doing what I've asked them to do. I have found that using your mantras like "They're acting kids because they're kids" or "Don't take it personally" helps me to stay calm.

- Anna, mother of 3 year old girl, 6 year old boy

Recognizing my own triggers allowed me some wait time before responding, which was a good strategy to be reminded of. After a meltdown my 13 year old acknowledged feeling bad for overreacting. That was different!

- Susana

Your manner is so gentle. It's like a good friend or kind family member speaking from a place of love and care, not criticism. It's one of your consistent strengths that this tone comes across in your writing even though I haven't met you. It feels authentic.

- Anonymous

I loved it all. I love the exercises and the general ease of the text. There's nothing too high brow in the text, so a layperson with no psychological training can understand it. It's practical, highly interesting, candid, confronting and yet, consoling!

- Hon, mother of 7 and 4 yr olds

If you are picking this book up because you are having difficulty, you will feel inspired and filled with hope. Loads of wonderful ideas. I like that after reading through this, I have concrete ideas and ideas ready to try--start out slowly--and begin to put in place. I feel inspired and supported!

- Laura, mother of 5, 8, 13 year olds

The whole book is a treasure, Dr. Laura! I like that in the workbook you take more time and space on explaining everything that you only touched in the first Peaceful Parent Happy Kids book. Every time I read this book or remember the practices, I feel more open and calm and empathic and thus my children are suddenly behave much better. :-)

- Linda, mother of 11 and 8 yr olds

The writing is very engaging, and relatable. It makes me feel like this was written for me personally. I feel like some of the difficulties with my son will be resolved in me just regulating my own emotions. He explodes like I do.

- Natasha, mother of 4 & 6

This book provided me with a clear idea and plan for how I can help change my behavior, in order to connect more with my daughter. It also gave me a different lens for "seeing" what her behaviors are really about. Loved the research, and how I can apply the strategies within my family. Clear changes I can make within myself, and actual language I can use with my children.

- Nicole, mother of 7, 5, 3 yr olds

I felt so loved and hopeful reading this and I imagine that's how other parents will feel. Your love was reaching through the pages to my heart!

- Sarah, mother of 10, 13, 16 yr olds

Your kind and loving voice shines through the book and I felt so comforted and supported.

- Lisa, mother of 5 yr old daughter

This book has definitely changed the way I approach parenting. It gives me ideas on how to interact with my daughter and since I've started implementing some of the ideas, there has definitely been a change on how my daughter and I interact with each other. More love and understanding...that's what the entire world needs. The effects of this book will leave lasting effects and in turn change the world.

Where are you right now?

You know the kind of parent you want to be—and you’re growing into that every day. This workbook helps you take the next step, with practical support in the moments that matter.

You want to stay calm—even in the hard moments.

And often, you do. But when you’re triggered, it can feel like something takes over.

This Workbook helps you:

  • Understand what’s happening in your nervous system when you’re triggered.
  • Interrupt the reaction before it escalates.
  • Build new calming pathways—so it actually gets easier.
  • Repair with your child so your relationship grows stronger.

You want to set limits—without constant battles.

You don’t want to be permissive—but you also don’t want to rely on threats, nagging, or punishment when your child doesn't listen.

This Workbook helps you:

  • Set clear, empathic limits your child can actually hear.
  • Stay connected even while holding boundaries.
  • Understand why children resist—and how to work with that instead of against it.
  • Guide behavior in ways that teach, rather than shame.

Your child has big emotions—and you want to help your child develop more emotional intelligence.

Sometimes those feelings come out as meltdowns, anger, or tears—and it’s not always clear how to respond in a way that really helps.

This Workbook helps you:

  • Understand what’s underneath your child’s behavior.
  • Respond in ways that help your child feel safe enough to calm down.
  • Coach your child through emotions instead of shutting them down.
  • Raise a child who can manage their feelings—and their behavior.

You want to feel close and connected with your child.

But in the busyness of daily life, it’s easy for connection to get overshadowed by routines, reminders, and just getting through the day.

This Workbook helps you:

  • Create small rituals of connection that make a big difference.
  • Use roughhousing and special time to create more closeness.
  • Repair disconnection so your child feels safe coming back to you.
  • Strengthen the relationship that makes everything else easier.

This Workbook doesn’t just give you ideas—it shows you exactly how to practice them.

“After reading this Workbook, my little boy responds so much "better" (more positively) to my own "better" behaviour. He is also expressing himself more openly and more frequently.”

— Tanya, mother of 6 yr old
